Searching For a Role in Manufacturing?

The demand for trade skills is growing, meaning there are more manufacturing jobs available in and around West Michigan with higher wages and better benefits. If you’re interested in making a change with your job, here are some tips for starting your search.

How Can You Start Searching For Your Next Manufacturing Role?

Use your connections.

The best way to find a job is through networking and using your personal and professional connections to learn about new opportunities. Many times, companies don’t advertise every job, and these are filled through word-of-mouth and referrals, instead.

When you network, you’ll be able to find out about these hidden jobs, so you can apply. Plus, a referral carries more weight with hiring managers – meaning you’re more likely to get an interview.

Attend job fairs.

Beyond using your network to find your next job in manufacturing, it’s also important to get out there and attend industry job fairs in person. Before you go, take a look at the attendees ahead of time if they are listed online. This will help you to better plan your time at the job fair, so it’s as productive as possible. Don’t forget to bring copies of your resume.

Search online.

From industry job boards to more general ones, there are many possibilities for online job searching. This can be overwhelming, as a result. It’s why narrowing your search is helpful.  For instance, think about what’s essential in your next job and what the dealbreakers are. This will help you target your search, so you only focus on those jobs that are a good fit.

Get your application ready.

When you’re filling out your application, don’t simply list your past duties and jobs. Highlight what you were able to achieve, your core strengths, and why a potential manager would want to hire you. Also list any qualifications or certifications you hold that would be valuable. Finally, check your application for mistakes before you submit it.

Prepare for interviews.

If you get a call for an interview, prepare ahead of time. Research the company, find out as much as you can about the position, check over the job listing again, come up with questions you have, and prepare your responses to common interview questions. You’ll feel more confident walking into an interview when you’ve thoroughly prepared.
